This is a stunning fantasy-romance, with great main and supporting characters. Katharine and Elizabeth Corr's new series is one to watch out for.
Overall, I really liked this book. It took no effort to get into, and kept me hooked all the way through. The main character, Merry was really relateable. In the beginning of the book, you see her life relatively deteriorated and then it goes downfall from then, as she struggles with her witchcraft and threats blooming beneath the surface of her (relatively) small town. Later in the story though, you see her come into her own as a character and realise just how much she can do and how much impact and power she has that she didn't realise she could use.
The last book I read that had witches in it was Queen of Shadows. But this book has a very different tone than that of Queen of Shadows.
The backstory of this book was epic. Wanting to learn more and understand more about the story kept me going. The curse hinted at in the blurb is awesome and the whole layout of the book is intriguing. This was a really easy and fast book to get through. Sometimes I have to struggle to immerse myself in a certain book, but I certainly didn't have the problem here.
The romance was lovely. There actually wasn't that much of it, but it was really fun to read. What was also good was the relationship between Merry and her brother, Leo, her grandmother, and her mother. This is a full story, with well-defined relationships that change and evolve as the story flows.
Really recommend this book for lovers of fantasy and romance. The sequel The Witch's Tears does not seem to have a release date yet, but I'm excited!
